One way to experience Yosemite is by signing up for a tram tour. These are open air buses that are led by park rangers and Yosemite Hospitality naturalists. As you cruise through the park you'll get to see all of the highlights in Yosemite. You will learn about the the park's natural history, indigenous cultures, early settlers, and diverse wildlife. With engaging guides and unforgettable sights, it's the perfect way to experience all the wonders Yosemite has to offer. The fee is $40.00 per person.
For those who prefer to avoid driving to and inside the national park, there are several services to help you. Firstly, both the Amtrak rail line and Greyhound busses can get visitors to both Fresno and Merced, the two largest cities closest to the park. From there, the YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) can get you from those cities into the park. Once in the park you can use the free shuttle service to get around or sign up for an open air tram tour.
The free Yosemite Valley shuttle system busses provide convenient access around Yosemite Valley:
Valleywide shuttle: This route serves all stops in Yosemite Valley, including lodges, food service, campgrounds, and trailheads. Buses arrive every 12 to 22 minutes from 7 am to 10 pm.
East Valley shuttle: This route is limited to Yosemite Village, Curry Village, Pines campgrounds, and trailheads in eastern Yosemite Valley. Buses arrive every 8 to 12 minutes from 7 am to 10 pm.
Yarts is the public transit bus line that provides scheduled, year-round and seasonal bus service into Yosemite National Park and its surrounding gateway communities. It operates year-round on Highway 140 from Merced through Mariposa. During the peak summer and fall seasons, it adds routes on Highway 41 (Oakhurst/Fresno), Highway 120 (Sonora), and Highway 395/120 (Mammoth Lakes) The service operates year-round on Highway 140 from Merced through Mariposa. Before you decide to use Yarts outside of its basic service area, from Merced through Mariposa and into the park, make sure you check the schedules or call Yarts directly to make sure your plan will work!
